How to be productive with your makeshift workspace at home

Working away from your usual environment may seem overwhelming. Productivity doesn’t need to be compromised just because you’re working away from the office. Your makeshift workspace can do wonders to give you a fresh perspective and a new thinking space. Still pondering on how you to make the best of work-from-home situation? Read along:

Start your workday away from the bed

As much as you would like to start checking your emails as soon as you wake up, don’t do it. Take your laptop to the kitchen and start your day to the aroma of your favorite brew.

If your kitchen has a breakfast bar, set up your workspace there. Take a look through your emails as you brew that fresh cup of morning coffee. This way you can also enjoy a good chat with your partner and break the monotony before starting work.

Choose a dedicated workspace

Setting up a dedicated workspace will help create the illusion of your office desk. Having everything you need at your work desk will allow you to stay focused for a longer period of time. Also, scattered workplace leads to a scattered mind which is not suitable for working. Gather up everything you would need at one place and start your day.

Be productive during your work blocks

Everyone has work blocks at times and it is the best time to channelize your energy into other tasks. Pick up a new hobby, spend some time with the kids or try to whip up a quick meal while recuperating. Our designer suggests having a hobby set up always ready along with your workstation. This saves time in setting up whenever you feel like it.

Take care of your mind

Mental health is as important as physical health. Take regular breaks and don’t overwhelm yourself with your task list. Focus on the most important tasks first and then work your way through the rest of your list. If you feel you need to take a breather, take a walk around the house, step out on the balcony, away from your workspace. Have phone calls or even video calls to stay connected with colleagues and friends.

Spend time with your family

As you now don’t commute, you can use these extra hours to log off from work on time and spend it with family. With no early mornings, every night can be a movie night with the family. All those new releases you missed out on because of work? Now’s the best time to catch up on them with the best company. With movable seating in your living room – transform it into a makeshift home theater.
